Partnerships & Strategic Alliances
The Davie County Economic Development Commission has created a dynamic and growth-oriented business climate through a spirit of partnership with the local business community, local and state governments and a network of economic development partners. These partnerships are an important part of how businesses thrive in Davie County, North Carolina. Highlights of a few of these partnerships follow.
Through this North Carolina partnership, Davie County EDC can helps companies get funding for:
- Installation or purchase of equipment.
- Structural repairs, improvements, or renovations of existing buildings to be used for expansion.
- Construction of or improvements to new or existing water, sewer, gas or electric utility distribution lines, or equipment for existing buildings.
Piedmont Triad Partnership & Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College
Through this regional partnership the Davie County EDC is able to coordinate the delivery of demand-driven workforce training and development programs and services.
This North Carolina/Federal Partnership provides access to grant funding for training programs, relocation and expansion projects and for job creation and retention projects. The economic development projects funded through the Golden Leaf Foundation focus on creating and retaining jobs, attracting new businesses, expanding industries and training new workers. The Golden Leaf Foundation seeks to involve companies that are committed to hiring or retaining workers, as well as projects that demonstrate a market demand for products. Funds for public infrastructure improvement projects tied to specific job creation and retention opportunities are also possible.
Jobs Development Investment Grant (JDIG)
This North Carolina partnership provides access to discretionary incentives that provide sustained annual grants to new and expanding businesses. JDIG grants stimulate economic activity and create new jobs by promoting the expansion of existing business and industry and by recruiting and attracting new business and industry.
Through this North Carolina partnership, the Davie County Economic Development Commission has access to business loans, infrastructure grants and local and state policy initiative leadership.
In January 1987, the North Carolina Rural Center was established as the first organization in the nation devoted exclusively to state rural advancement. In an editorial called "The Keys to N.C. Prosperity," The Charlotte Observer endorsed creation of the center and described clearly why it was critical to all people of the state:
"North Carolina has only one economy. Strong cities needs strong towns, and vice versa. Rural areas provide markets for urban goods and services as well as many urban workers and leaders.... If rural and urban areas don't work together, they might not work at all."
The Rural Center envisions a rural North Carolina in which:
- Individuals can achieve economic independence by working in jobs that pay livable wages, are safe, and provide opportunities for growth and advancement.
- A strong entrepreneurial spirit is creating growth in all business sectors, allowing both new and existing businesses to flourish.
- Local economies are fully integrated into the global economy through an extensive network of transportation and telecommunications services.
- Rural communities offer a consistently high quality of life for their citizens, including access to excellent public schools and life-long educational opportunities, high quality health care, decent and affordable housing, a clean environment and recreational and cultural activities.
- Through strong local leadership and an active citizenry, rural communities are charting their own futures and effectively implementing sustainable, community-based strategies for economic development.
