Investment Will Help Create New Jobs and Strengthen Local Manufacturing

Mocksville has secured a $150,000 state grant from the Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) to support the expansion of Sportsfield Specialties, Inc., a well-established manufacturer of athletic field equipment. The award is part of NC Governor Josh Stein’s latest round of investments designed to strengthen rural economies across the state.

The grant will help fund a 46,000-square-foot addition to Sportsfield Specialties’ existing Mocksville facility. The company expects to invest more than $4 million in the project and create 20 new jobs in Davie County.

Sportsfield Specialties has been an industry leader for more than 20 years, serving athletic venues ranging from local schools and colleges to MLB and NFL stadiums. In 2021, the company relocated its soft-goods division from Salisbury to Mocksville, marking a major commitment to Davie County’s workforce and business environment.

“Sportsfield Specialties has become a strong part of our industrial community,” said Terry Bralley, president of the Davie County Economic Development Commission. “Their continued investment shows the confidence they have in our workforce and in the future of Davie County. This expansion demonstrates exactly what can happen when a community supports its existing industries.”

The state’s Building Reuse Program, administered by the Rural Infrastructure Authority with support from the N.C. Department of Commerce, helps communities renovate and expand facilities to attract and retain jobs.

Bralley emphasized that this project highlights Mocksville’s growing momentum.

“We’re proud to support a company that builds products used in sports facilities across the nation,” Bralley added. “Seeing them grow right here in Davie County is a win for our residents, our economy, and our long-term development strategy.”

The expansion strengthens Mocksville’s manufacturing base and reflects the town’s commitment to fostering business growth and job creation.
