Economic development is like baseball – it takes an entire team to win the game.
Terry Bralley, President of the Davie County Economic Development Commission, has a team of heavy hitters, and win the game they do. Terry Bralley’s Davie County economic development team, made up of NC Representative Julia Howard, NC Senator Andrew Brock, Board of County Commissioners,Town Boards, Town & County Staff, EDC Board, DCCC – The Community College of Davidson and Davie Counties, private sector contributors, and the community itself, have been knocking it out of the park.
“No one person can do everything themselves,” said Bralley, “It takes our citizens, our schools, our local boards and elected officials, and well as our representatives in Raleigh, to make things happen. Everyone takes pride when we do win something.”
“We are in competition with the world because a product can be manufactured anywhere and consumed anywhere,” he added. “We work hard the provide the perfect environment for businesses to succeed.”
While much of North Carolina is still struggling to recover from the recession that began in 2007, economic development is alive and well in Davie County.
The last four years of statistics prove Davie County has a job winning team: 2553 jobs and $497.4 million in investments into Davie County.
Here is a recap of the successes:
2012
In 2012, six companies invested $222.3 million dollars and created 1,015 new jobs in Davie County. These companies included CPP Global, Wake Forest Baptist Health, Ashley Furniture, Beaufurn, Ingersoll Rand, and Avgol.
2013
Ashley Furniture expanded its commitment to Davie County in 2013 when it broke ground on a 1,040,000 square foot distribution facility, which will eventually be the largest furniture manufacturing and distribution center in the world. Gildan and Pro Refrigeration created 375 more jobs and invested an additional $154.9 million. And Wake Forest Baptist Health transformed the vacant Skyline building into a disaster response equipment storage facility.
2014
2014 saw 50 new jobs from SWG Aerospace, a $6.9 million investment and 40 jobs from Dunlop Aircraft Tyres, and House of Raeford invested $10 million and promised 200 jobs over two years.
2015
2015 turned out to be another banner year with an increase of 458 jobs and an investment of an additional $100.3 million in Davie County. Dex/Volvo, Carolina Precision Machining and AccuMED made Davie County home, while Avgol and Pro Refrigeration expanded. Wake Forest Baptist Health entered phase II of construction and development at its Davie Campus. Ashley Furniture committed an additional $8.7 million and 450 additional jobs over the next five years.
These successes were aided by Federal and State Grants of $ 14,046,000; ( One NC Fund $1,785,000, Golden leaf $3,500,000, Building Reuse Grants $2,500,000, Infrastructure $6,261,000); Land Donations $3,500,000; JDIG $11,250,000; and EDC Private Sector Capital Campaign $1,000,000.
